#Sahara: The Saharawi Human Rights activist Mahfouda Bamba Lefkir was sentenced to 6 months in prison today, accused of “obstruction of justice and humiliating an official”.
The Moroccan trial Court in occupied El Aaiún handed down the sentence under a strict police blockade, with any access to the court-room strictly prohibited to Saharawis who came to show solidarity with the activist, except for her father who was the only one who could attend the trial.
Mahfouda entered the room shouting “Long live the Polisario Front!” and “I am detained for having denounced the occupation!”, according to Bamba Lefkir, father of the detainee. 35-year-old Mahfouda, an activist and member of the Gdeim Izik Coordination, has been attacked on numerous occasions for denouncing the Moroccan occupation and her activism for the freedom of Saharawi political prisoners.
